I groomed a sweet doggie named Archer (pictured below) a couple of times @ Camp Run-A-Mutt when he was a smaller pup. His mom mentioned that she was interested in the Learn 2 Groom program, so we set up a lesson in her home. She was amazing! Possibly the best groom student I have had in 3 decades. The texture of Archer's coat and the techniques used to get the hairstyle his Mom selected are very difficult for a beginner to master, but she did it! The first lesson was just over 2 hours and Archer was getting tired, so we stopped and I came back  another day to finish the lesson. But, the hard work payed off. Now this pet parent has a new hobby she can enjoy and save literally hundreds of dollars a year in groom expenses. What contributed to her stellar performance on this difficult coif?

1) She was prepared before I arrived. (Her dog was bathed, blow-dried and completely combed out.)
2) She was patient with herself and her dog.
3) She invested in good quality equipment.
4) She listened attentively and followed directions.
5) And, BONUS!, she is visually gifted and has an impeccable sense of aesthetics.

When I teach, I groom one side of the dog and then the student grooms the other side to match. Most pet parents that want to learn to groom their own dog choose an easier hairstyle, but you can see for yourself that this dog was beautifully finished. Both sides match perfectly! And we had so much fun during the lesson!
